Renew Europe wishes the European Investment Bank to be more present at local level, not only through investments, but also via a stronger communication channel with local public and private actors. This will also imply greater cooperation with multiple partners and technical advice and capacity-building. In order to increase transparency and accountability of the EIB, Renew Europe stresses the importance of greater Parliament scrutiny over decision of the EIB board of directors and comes with an innovative proposal for a potential observer status of the Parliament in the board’s meetings.

MEP Dragoș Pîslaru, Renew Europe shadow rapporteur on this file, said:

“The adopted text illustrates the outcome of good understanding and alignment among the political groups. There has been consensus at the table with regards to the Renew Europe proposals and I am glad that our recommendations for a more transparent, forthcoming and innovative EIB are part of the text.”

Renew Europe encourages the EIB to play a key role in supporting SMEs and mid-caps, in investment in breakthrough innovations, in the social economy, in addressing the technological transition that requires development of skills and in ensuring a just transition.
