The week ahead: 12–15 March 2018

MONDAY
The TRAN Committee will debate on the cross-border parcel delivery services report, supported by our ALDE MEP Pavel Telička as shadow rapporteur and a also report defending and regulating training and formation for road drivers, ALDE MEP Izaskun Bilbao Barandica as shadow rapporteur.
TUESDAY
There will be a key debate on the Council and Commission statements for the guidelines on the framework of future EU-UK relations, leaded by Brexit Coordinator and ALDE President Guy Verhofstadt.
WEDNESDAY
The protection of journalists at EU level will be debated, after the case of the murder of journalist Ján Kuciak and his partner Martina Kušnírová. MEPs will also discuss Mr Kuciak’s revelations about alleged misuse of EU funds in Slovakia and potential links between organised crime groups and Slovak politicians. A special delegation of Members of the Parliament including ALDE’s Vice-Chair Sophie in 't Veld traveled to Slovakia last Friday to present condolences to their families in front of the victim’s house.

There will also be a debate on the US decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminium, following last week’s speech of President Donald Trump.
THURSDAY
Presentation of the Europass, an online platform that provides a CV framework that works across the EU, to improve mobility. MEPs will discuss also the situation in Maldives, Sirya, Turkey, Uganda and Comoros and will vote motions for resolutions concerning debates on cases of breaches of human rights, democracy and the rule of law (Rule 135).
