Another plenary session starts today at the European Parliament where climate change, customer rights, the budget for the upcoming years and the visit of Angela Merkel will centre the attention of our Members at the hemicycle.

MONDAY

The Clean Energy Package will star the first day of the session with debates on reports on energy efficiency and the promotion of the use of energy for renewable sources, with MEP Gerben Jan Gerbrandy (NL) as our shadow rapporteur.

TUESDAY

Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel visits the European Parliament as part of the monthly series of prime minister debates on The Future Of Europe. Stay tuned for the speech by our group President Guy Verhofstadt.

WEDNESDAY

MEPs will lay down their funding priorities for the EU’s post-2020 long-term budget, including a breakdown of the amounts foreseen for each EU programme. MEPs Jean Arthuis (FR) and Gérard Deprez (BE) will be our representatives.

The Parliament will vote on a proposal for a new EU humanitarian visa system, which would allow asylum-seekers to reach Europe without putting their lives at risk, with Cecilia Wikström (SE) as our shadow rapporteur.

The Telecom Package, which includes improvements on 5G and cheaper phone calls among Member States will be voted in plenary, after long negotiations leaded by our Internal Market and Consumer Protection MEP, Dita Charanzová (CZ).

THURSDAY

Rail passengers’ rights with be voted, including more compensation for travellers in case of delays, better information given to passengers about their rights, better assistance to people with reduced mobility, better access to cyclists and clearer complaints-handling procedures. MEP Jens Rohde (DK) is our shadow rapporteur on the file.
