The Week Ahead: 18–24 February 2019
Busy week ahead at the European Parliament in Brussels this week. Check out our priorities below.
MONDAY
Members of the ECON and TAX3 Committees will meet Members of National Parliaments to discuss the European Parliament’s legislative and inquiry work in the area of tax and anti-money laundering (lessons learnt, key messages, implementation at EU and national level) and Taxation of the Digital Economy. TUESDAY
The Civil Liberties Committee will vote on the funding rules for the EU Asylum and Migration Fund, for 2021–2027. They will also vote on the conclusions made by the working group on the respect of the rule and law, and particularly corruption and freedom of the press, with ALDE MEP Sophie in’t Veld as rapporteur.
The Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development will vote on the adoption of draft opinion on discontinuing seasonal changes of time, a report by ALDE MEP Ulrike Müller.
The International Trade Committee will decide on its input to the Commission’s negotiating mandate for future trade negotiations with the US.
The Special committee on financial crimes, tax evasion and tax avoidance will host and exchange of views with Commissioner Margrethe Vestager and María Jesús Montero Cuadrado, Minister of the Treasury of Spain. More info and watch live here.
WEDNESDAY
The Culture and Education Committee will vote on the funding rules for the new Erasmus programme, for 2021–2027.
The Environment Committee will give its input to the EU’s long-term climate strategy, proposing the objective of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
THURSDAY
EU-wide safety features, to be included on vehicles to limit fatalities and severe injuries due to road accidents, will be up for a vote by the Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee with MEP Dita Charanzová as shadow rapporteur.
They will also vote on rules and procedures for compliance with and enforcement of Union harmonisation legislation on products, with ALDE MEP Jasenko Selimovic as shadow rapporteur.
