The Week Ahead 18–24 March 2019
It’s Committee week at the European Parliament in Brussels centred by the rule of law, migration, measures to take in case of a no-deal Brexit and the launch of the ALDE Party campaign for the EU Elections 2019.
MONDAY
2018 Sakharov Prize finalist NGOs, which carried out search and rescue operations in the Mediterranean that are now being prevented from operating, will discuss the topic with MEPs from the Civil Liberties and Foreign Affairs committees and the Human Rights subcommittee.
The Committee on Industry, Research and Energy will debate on the Horizon Europe programme, the EU Defence fund, EU Space Programme and the Connecting Europe Facility.
The Committee on Legal Affairs will debate on the future relationship between the UK and the EU in the field of family law following the UK’s withdrawal from the EU.
TUESDAY
The European Parliament hosts a high-level conference on the future of oceans.
WEDNESDAY
Committee on Regional Development will vote on the adjustment of annual pre-financing for the years 2021 to 2023.
Several ALDE Members are nominated to the MEP Awards 2019. The ceremony will take place in Brussels later that day.
THURSDAY
The ALDE Party hosts an electoral meeting and the campaign kick-off towards the European Elections 2019, with the presence of the ALDE Prime Ministers, Commissioners and leaders including the ALDE Group President Guy Verhofstadt.
A legislative proposal that would oblige internet providers to remove terrorist content or disable access to it within one hour after receiving an order from authorities will be up for a vote by the Civil Liberties Committee.
MEPs will assess the rule of law situation in Hungary, with Commission First Vice-President Frans Timmermans and the Romanian Presidency.
