It’s Committee week at the European Parliament in Brussels and we also will host two interesting seminars, before attending to the 39th ALDE Party Congress in Madrid.

MONDAY 5th

The Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee will vote on European crowdfunding service providers for business and also a draft report on Markets in financial instruments, with MEP Caroline Nagtegaal (NL) as rapporteur.

The International Trade Committee is expected to propose that Parliament should give its consent to finalise the trade deal between EU and Japan. This is the single biggest bilateral trade deal that the EU has ever entered into, covering a third of world GDP.

The Budget Committee will vote on their position on the interim report on the EU’s next long-term budget (MFF), aiming for a post-2020 budget reform which matches the EU’s future ambitions with MEP Gérard Deprez (BE) as co-rapporteur.

The Internal Market Committee will present a draft report on Complementing EU type-approval legislation with regard to the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the EU.

The Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs will vote on a draft report on Protection of persons reporting on breaches of Union law with MEP Maite Pagazaurtundúa (ES) as rapporteur.

WEDNESDAY 7th

ALDE Hearing: Cyprus. Hosted by MEPs Javier Nart (ES) and Ilhan Kyuchyuk (BG). Key speakers will include the current and former negotiators involved in the last round of talks in Crans-Montana, former UN Envoy Alexander Downer, and representatives from the Chambers of Commerce as well as from political parties. ALDE Seminar: ‘Special Economic Zones for Europe’s Digital Start-Up Economy: are EU-sandboxes the answer?’. Hosted by MEPs Nadja Hirsch (DE) and Elsi Katainen (FI) and focused on the necessity to improve the regulatory, economic and cultural framework for digital Start-ups in the EU, in particular the feasibility of EU-wide “digital special economic areas”, including sandboxes. THURSDAY

The Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety will vote on a report on the Implementation of the Directive 2009/128/EC on the sustainable use of pesticides.

The 39th ALDE Party Congress will take place from Thursday 8 to Saturday 10 November in Madrid, Spain, co-hosted by our member party Ciudadanos. The Congress will bring together around 2,000 European liberals and democrats for three days of in-depth policy discussions, crucial votes and elections, and sociable networking occasions.
